This movie depicts general behavior of Phidippus whitmani, a relatively small species of Phidippus that typically lives in leaf-litter or on herbaceous plants near the ground in wooded areas. These spiders are found throughout the eastern United States. In the southern part of their range, females are bright red. In the north, they are brown. Facing turns, grooming, feeding on Diptera (Brachycera and Nematocera), as well as feeding upon an immature Pisaurina mira (Araneae: Pisauridae) are depicted.
